Bacteriostatic Water
3 mL · Lyophilized powder · SKU WV-BACW-03
Sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, for reconstituting lyophilized compounds. The preservative is what allows a vial to be entered more than once.
Compound information
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water carrying 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic agent. The preservative suppresses microbial growth between withdrawals, which is the practical difference from sterile water for injection: a bacteriostatic vial tolerates repeated entry over a working period, a single-use vial does not.
Research context
- Reconstitution of lyophilized peptides and proteins
- Serial dilution series where one diluent vial serves several preparations
- Vehicle control preparations
Working notes
Benzyl alcohol is not inert in every assay — it can interfere with cell-based work and with some analytical methods. Where the preservative is a confound, use unpreserved sterile water and a single-entry vial.
Reconstitution & handling
Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water introduced slowly against the vial wall — do not inject directly onto the lyophilized cake and do not shake.
- Store lyophilized at −20 °C, protected from light.
- Store reconstituted solution at 2–8 °C and use within the study window.
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
- Handle under standard laboratory practice with appropriate PPE.
Shipping & documentation
Orders are dispatched same-day when placed before 14:00 local time. Compounds ship lyophilized and are shelf-stable in transit; packaging is discreet and tamper-evident with tracking on every order.
A lot-specific Certificate of Analysis is issued for every batch and is available from the lab results library.
